What Current Inflation Hints About Social Security's 2027 COLA

Retirees may find a silver lining to the current inflation they're facing.

What Current Inflation Hints About Social Security's 2027 COLA

Published August 27, 2026 · Category: Finance

Overview

We're less than two months away from one of Social Security's most anticipated days: the announcement of the 2027 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). On Oct. 14, Social Security recipients will learn how much of a boost they can expect to their benefits beginning on Jan. 1, 2027.

Although the official COLA won't be out until then, recent inflation numbers hint at its direction. Unfortunately, the 2027 COLA won't help with the inflation htat retirees are currently facing, but the (somewhat) good news is that they're likely to receive an above-average boost next year.
