Rocket Lab's Backlog Just Hit $2.4 Billion. Here's Why Neutron's First Flight Matters More.

Published August 13, 2026 · Category: Finance

Overview

Rocket Lab's (NASDAQ: RKLB) recently released second-quarter results revealed that the company has $2.36 billion in contract backlogs. It's an impressive amount and signals the rocket company is attracting customers. But some of that potential revenue, and it's only potential right now, is dependent on the successful flight of the company's all-important Neutron rocket.

Management has said that Neutron is expected to be on the launchpad in the fourth quarter after two years of delays. But any further delays will stifle Rocket Lab's ability to convert its contract backlogs into revenue.
