President Trump Promised to Pay Americans a $5,000 “Trump Dividend” After the Midterm Elections. But That’s Not How Dividends Work.
The president made the promise during the first day of the GOP midterm convention.
Overview
If you're an investor, you probably heard something on the first day of the Republican midterm convention that made you take notice: President Donald Trump promised Americans $5,000 if the GOP retains the House and the Senate in November's elections.
"If the Republicans win, you win with us, and you get $5,000," he said. "It will be called the Trump Dividend."
Details
He also compared the promised payout to a corporate dividend, saying it would be "very much like a successful company would do a cash distribution to its shareholders."
